Final Project – Eastern Market

This semester has absolutely flown by and I can’t believe that this is my last assignment!

I’ve learned so much about myself as a photographer and a writer, as well as learning more about the camera and photojournalism. Its been an incredible ride and I’m sad to see it end.

Over the weekend I went to Eastern Market’s Saturday market, which is open year round. I’m a huge fan of outdoor markets and local shopping, you get a feel for their product and can interact with the person growing your produce or making your bread.

Eastern Market isn’t just food and produce, they do have merchandise and textile vendors, which primarily come out for their Sunday market during the summer months.

I had the joy of photographing a place I go and love spending time at. I also got a brief history lesson of the market and to hear more about what makes Detroit’s market so special — the community.

If you ever want a nice Saturday morning, I would highly recommend heading to the market and walking around with a friend. People will say hi and vendors will chat, plus more flowers are coming out so it’s really pretty!

Thankfully I’ve had some experience with editing both audio and video before and was able to efficiently tackle this assignment. It was a lot of fun to learn more about a place I spend time at.

Enjoy!
